While our focus is currently on redoing the main bathroom, we do have plans drawn up for our kitchen that an old co-worker of mine drew up for us. (If you’d like to work with her, message me below and I can provide contact information)
Other than removing the cabinets that closed off the living and dining area, we haven’t really done anything to our kitchen since moving in. I (my dad) replaced the light in the breakfast nook and Charlotte destroyed the built-in desk that was near the door. Other than that, the layout and function of our kitchen suits us just fine for now but there are some problems we’d like to fix.
The Back Door
We rarely use our front door here and because of that, we often kick off our shoes, toss our coats and bags and everything else on the breakfast nook. The new plans have additional coat and shoe storage near the refrigerator and we were pretty excited about that. We’re also looking for some more minimalist blinds to hang on the door.
Extra Dining Space
While we love how cute the built-in breakfast nook is, it’s not really necessary two have two dining spaces in this small of a house. The additional storage it provides will be replaced with cabinets that can house the garbage and recycling as well as a microwave and bar/wine station. The plans we have drawn up include a smaller little eat-in area, but I think we’ll just stick with more rows of cabinets there instead.
New Kitchen Look & Feel
While we love quartz for its durability and aesthetic, it’s just not ideal in our budget. So instead, I think we’ll look into some more affordable options like butcher block. Our laminate countertops already have a faux butcher block look to them so we kind of get the idea of how that will look. But with newly painted cabinets and updated hardware, they’ll be able to stand out rather than fade-into the appearance of everything else.
I have no clue what we’ll do for a floor but we’re hoping there’s hardwood floors running beneath the current vinyl flooring. We have no real immediate plans to get started on this kitchen but it’s nice to know the potential of the space and what we can do with it.
What do you think of the plans so far?
